ThinkY

ThinkY

During the first year of the Ypsilon Institute a need has risen to create a special group of members that will give an additional touch to the content-rich monthly events, the touch of action. Meaning that young people will not only discuss social issues, but will look for solutions and answers as well.

Thus came the idea to create one or more groups of members that would be gathered by interest or knowledge in relevant fields. This is the first real form of think tank of young people in Slovenia. The elder or wiser (as we like to call them) often complain that young people are just talking, but they do nothing. Therefore, ThinkY is an excellent opportunity to make the ideas, wishes and words on needed changes a reality with concrete proposals and actions.

ThinkY will therefore be primarily aimed at an in-depth analysis or study of a specific social problem, which will be followed by a concrete proposal for resolving the case problem. This can be realized through the initiative to change an old or adopt a new law, through adaptation of certain regulations and decisions, as well as in many other innovative ways that will be invented by young people involved in ThinkY.

Through ThinkY young people will be able to apply their knowledge in practice for the benefit of society as a whole.

The current situation in society shows that there is a need for significant changes, and the time has come for young people to present how they see these changes and how they want to implement them. To conclude, it is our future, and the generation Y has gained enough knowledge and experience to be able to use it for the common good.

ThinkY groups will evolve around three themes:

- Education (school system),

- Demographic changes (reforms),

- Express your potential (the role of an individual).

EDUCATION

Increasingly, we hear that the school system lags behind the general evolution of society. That today's schools simply do not reach young people because of outdated methods that are distant to today's generation of young people born in high-tech society. Often we hear the criticism that schools focus only on those who are not doing well, while they are not giving enough opportunities to the talented to further develop their potential. Therefore, it is necessary to ask whether our school system really equipped us with enough knowledge to compete in international markets? After the first five years of Bologna reform and its first graduates we may also ask whether it was reasonable and necessary and what are its effects.

DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGES

Population aging is a key factor in the demographic changes that will require a change in social system, especially as regards the regulation of pension and health insurance. In the coming decades Slovenia will, due to population aging and adverse demographic trends, face the challenge of how to ensure long-term financial sustainability of the system, which is largely dependent on demographic trends. It is therefore necessary to look for solutions that take into account intergenerational solidarity.

EXPRESS YOUR POTENTIAL

The group will have fairly free hand in determining key issues to focus on within this theme. The key is to find answers to questions as: What an individual needs to express its full potential? What to do/change in companies to encourage employees to use most of their potential? What needs to change in a country/social system to initiate active citizenship?

It is essential to try to empower the individual to become an active citizen, responsible in its operations and able to exploit its own potential.

If a member expresses interest in creating a group with a different theme, it is possible to form a group outside these frameworks.

It is desirable that every member of the Ypsilon Institute is at least once a year actively involved in one of the ThinkY groups.
